  COMPANY F, 51ST INFANTRY REGIMENT • Constituted 15 May 1917 in the Regular Army as Company F, 51st Infantry • Organized 16 June 1917 at Chickamauga Park, Georgia • (51st Infantry assigned 16 November 1917 to the 6th Division) • Inactivated 22 September 1921 at Camp Grant, Illinois • (51st Infantry relieved 15 August 1927 from assignment to the 6th Division and assigned to the 9th Division; relieved 1 October 1933 from assignment to the 9th Division and assigned to the 6th Division; relieved 16 December 1940 from assignment to the 6th Division) • Activated 15 April 1941 at Pine Camp, New York, as Company F, 51st Infantry (Armored), an element of the 4th Armored Division • Redesignated 1 January 1942 as Company F, 51st Armored Infantry • Reorganized and redesignated 10 September 1943 as Company C, 10th Armored Infantry Battalion, an element of the 4th Armored Division • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 May 1946 as Company C, 10th Constabulary Squadron, an element of the 14th Constabulary Regiment • Inactivated 20 December 1948 in Germany; concurrently converted and redesignated as Company C, 10th Armored Infantry Battalion, an element of the 4th Armored Division • Redesignated 25 February 1953 as Company C, 510th Armored Infantry Battalion, an element of the 4th Armored Division [Note: see Defense Threat Reduction Agency Fact Sheet about Operation TEAPOT, an atmospheric nuclear weapons test, in which Company C participated. The series of nuclear tests was intended to test nuclear devices for possible inclusion in the weapons arsenal, improve military tactics, equipment, and training, and study civil defense requirements. Company C is listed at the bottom of page 5.] • Activated 15 June 1954 at Fort Hood, Texas • Inactivated 1 April 1957 at Fort Hood, Texas (510th Armored Infantry Battalion concurrently relieved from assignment to the 4th Armored Division) • Redesignated 1 July 1959 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 6th Battle Group, 51st Infantry • Redesignated 11 August 1967 as Company F, 51st Infantry • Activated 25 September 1967 in Vietnam • Inactivated 26 December 1968 in Vietnam [Note: Though F/51st LRP (ABN) INF ceased to exist officially on 26 December 1968 and the men were assigned to units of the 75th Ranger Regiment, according to First Sergeant Walter Butts, the company flag wasn’t lowered until 1 February 1969. Thus, veterans of F/51st LRP always refer to the timespan of 25 September 1967 – 1 February 1969 as the life of the unit.
